President Macron spoke on the telephone to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, today, Thursday 5 September 2024.
The French President began by expressing his sincerest condolences to the families and close friends of the victims following the attack on the city of Poltava on 3 September. He reiterated his utter condemnation of the intensification of the Russian strikes and their indiscriminate nature.
In this context, President Macron reaffirmed that France remained more than ever at the Ukrainian people’s side and would go on supporting Ukraine for as long and as intensely as necessary to defeat Russia’s war of aggression.
The Head of State also reiterated France’s determination to continue supporting the road map of the Bürgenstock summit of 15 June 2024, with the aim of reaching a fair, lasting peace that restores Ukraine’s legitimate rights, with due regard for the fundamental principles of international law.
The two leaders discussed the situation on the ground and Ukraine’s military needs, and agreed to remain in close contact over the coming weeks.
