The President of the Republic visited South Africa from 21 to 23 November 2025 on the occasion of the G20 Summit.
Upon his arrival in Johannesburg, the Head of State held talks with Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.
He then travelled to Pretoria for a ceremony at Freedom Park commemorating the French participants in the anti-apartheid struggle, together with Paul Mashatile, Vice President of South Africa.
He then took part in the joint launch session of the France–South Africa Business Council together with Vice President Paul Mashatile.
At the end of the day, the Head of State went to the French Residence for a dinner with figures from the cultural sphere.
Saturday, 22 November, was dedicated to the G20 Summit.
President Emmanuel Macron spoke at the opening session, which focused on inclusive and sustainable economic growth that leaves no one behind.
He also took part in the second session dedicated to building a resilient world and the G20’s contribution to disaster risk reduction, climate change, sustainable energy transitions, and food systems.
On the sidelines of the G20, the Head of State held numerous multilateral meetings, notably in the E3 format with Keir Starmer and Friedrich Merz, and in the G7 format.
He also answered questions from the journalists present.

On Sunday, 23 November, the President of the Republic participated in the third session of the G20 Summit, which focused on a fair and just future for all, including the topic of critical minerals, work respecting human rights, and artificial intelligence.
He also held several bilateral meetings, notably with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi.
