This evening (Sunday, 13 March), the President of the French Republic continued his consultations with a view to bringing about a ceasefire and the opening of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
Following his call with the President of the Russian Federation, Mr Vladimir Putin, on Saturday, 12 March, he spoke this evening with the President of the United States of America, Mr Joe Biden, then with the President of Ukraine, Mr Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Conversation with Joe Biden
The French President presented his condolences for the death of journalist Brent Renaud who was killed covering the conflict in Ukraine.
The two Presidents agreed to step up the sanctions already imposed on Russia, to support Ukraine, and to take all steps that could bring an end to fighting in concertation. They will stay in touch in this regard.
Conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The French President discussed the situation with his Ukrainian counterpart. He expressed his full support and detailed the additional aid the European Union decided to provide at the Versailles Summit. The two Presidents discussed the continuation of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. They will continue to coordinate in the coming days.
