The President of the Republic attended the 13th Summit of the southern European Union Member States (MED9) on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, in Split, Croatia.

The summit brought together the nine MED9 Member States : Croatia, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Slovenia, in the presence of the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council.

The Heads of State and Government discussed the main priorities on the European agenda and of the October European Council:

  • support for Ukraine,
  • the multiannual financial framework,
  • competitiveness,
  • energy prices,
  • migration,
  • the enlargement of the European Union.

They also addressed the main challenges facing the Mediterranean region, particularly in the areas of security, civil protection, ocean and biodiversity conservation, decarbonisation and energy.

Finally, they discussed relations between the European Union and its Mediterranean neighbourhood, against the backdrop of tensions in the Middle East.
