Official visit by Ali Falih al-Zaidi, Prime Minister of Iraq.

The President of the Republic received Ali Falih al-Zaidi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, on Monday 14 September 2026 at the Élysée Palace.

On his first visit to Europe since taking office, the Iraqi Prime Minister was received in France to further strengthen the partnership between our two countries. The two leaders discussed cooperation in priority sectors such as energy, transport, infrastructure, water and health.

France and Iraq have also strengthened their cooperation on security and defence. Whilst the role of the international coalition against Daesh is set to evolve, they reaffirmed their mutual commitment and shared determination to fight terrorism relentlessly and to prevent the resurgence of Daesh, whilst fully respecting each other’s sovereignty.

The President of the Republic emphasised that stability in the Middle East must also deliver tangible results for the French people. The two leaders therefore discussed the impact of regional instability on trade and energy supplies, particularly on Iraqi oil exports. They worked towards resuming and diversifying supply routes in order to help reduce tensions in the energy markets, support our economy and protect the purchasing power of the French people in the long term.
