Ahead of the 8th edition of Choose France, President Emmanuel Macron visited Wissous on Monday 12 May 2025 to inaugurate the Centre of Excellence of EssilorLuxottica, the Franco-Italian global leader in optical solutions.

This modern industrial facility marks a strategic milestone for the company, which achieved record revenue of €26.5 billion in 2024 and is a major exporter.

With an investment of €70 million, the Wissous laboratory consolidates activities previously spread across multiple sites, enabling more efficient production of custom ophthalmic lenses.

The facility now employs 290 people and operates entirely on renewable energy, including 3,700 m² of solar panels. Through this project, EssilorLuxottica reinforces its presence in Essonne and, more broadly, in France—its second-largest global market—demonstrating its commitment to an innovative, sustainable, and locally rooted optical industry.
