President Emmanuel Macron received Ahmed Al-Charaa, Interim President of the Syrian Transitional Authorities, on Wednesday 7 May 2025 at the Élysée Palace.
This meeting follows France’s longstanding commitment to supporting the Syrian people in their aspiration for peace and democracy. The President reaffirmed France’s support for the establishment of a new Syria—free, stable, pluralistic, sovereign, and respectful of all components of Syrian society.
In line with the International Paris Conference for Syria held on 13 February 2025, which helped define the framework with the support of the international community, the President reiterated to the Interim President his demands of the Syrian government, including :
- Ensuring an inclusive transition;
- Syria’s contribution to regional stability, particularly regarding Lebanon’s sovereignty;
- The fight against terrorism, a security priority for Syrians, the wider region, and the French people.
