The attack which hit London last night, a few days after the one in Manchester, is another appalling and cowardly attack on our free societies.
The most heartfelt thoughts of M. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, are with the victims, their families and close friends at this painful time. To the British people he extends the solidarity of France, which will continue doing its utmost to combat terrorism, alongside the United Kingdom and all those countries concerned.
The victims include fellow French citizens. France is doing everything to assist them.
The first round of the general election is also being held today, Sunday, for our fellow citizens living abroad. In coordination with the British authorities, security measures will be stepped up in London so that civic turnout can show the strength of democracy in the face of freedom’s enemies.
The French President is in contact with the British authorities and is being kept informed of developments in the situation and the evidence in the investigation.
