Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, spoke to the President of the United States of America on Sunday, April 8, 2018 about the situation in Syria. The French President utterly condemned the chemical attacks carried out against the people of Douma, in Eastern Ghouta, on April 7.

The French President and the President of the United States of America exchanged their reports and analyses confirming the use of chemical weapons. They instructed their teams to deepen exchanges in the coming days.

They also decided to coordinate their actions and initiatives within the United Nations Security Council, which is due to meet in New York Monday, April 9, to condemn the failure to comply with Resolution 2401 and the repeated use of chemical weapons. All responsibility in the matter will have to be clearly established.

The two presidents agreed to remain in close contact and will speak to each other again in the next 48 hours.
