President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone on March 21 with U.S. President Donald Trump. They discussed the assassination attempt against Sergei and Yulia Skripal, who were attacked with a nerve agent in Salisbury, and agreed that the only plausible explanation was that Russia was responsible. They condemned any and all uses of chemical weapons and emphasized that France and the United States stand together, side by side, with the United Kingdom following this attack.
With respect to the unilateral measures regarding steel and aluminum announced by the U.S. Administration on March 8, the French and American presidents touched on recent discussions between the European Commission and the U.S. Administration.
Finally, President Macron and President Trump said they were looking forward to seeing one another during the President’s state visit to Washington from April 23 to 25.
