The Bureau Cressent is more than just a piece of furniture; it is a masterpiece of French craftsmanship, a reflection of the artisanal excellence of its era. With its refined lines and sculpted details, it embodies French history, having witnessed major decisions within the Élysée Palace.

This desk is distinguished by its satinwood panels and violetwood friezes. Its four curved legs, adorned with bronze acanthus sabots, terminate in sculpted busts of warriors, lending a heroic touch to the piece. It features bronze-edged moldings, three applied drawers, and intricately chiseled bronze borders. At the center of the facade, a female mask surrounded by rocaille palms adds a final note of elegance.

History

Originally from the Ministry of the Navy, this desk was used by Armand Fallières at the Élysée Palace during the Third Republic. It has since served all the Presidents of the Fifth Republic, except for Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, making it a symbol of the presidential office.

Today, this historic piece continues its storied journey as the centerpiece of our exhibition, ready to capture the imagination of visitors and bear witness to the rich past it represents.
