The first meeting of the Sherpas, representatives of Heads of State and Government, began on 20 January in Versailles, for a three-day event during the French Presidency of the G7.

The Sherpas launched the preparatory work for the Évian Summit, which will take place in June 2026, focusing on the two priorities of the French Presidency: solidarity and the renewal of international partnerships, and the reduction of global macroeconomic imbalances.

This first Sherpa Meeting confirms the intention of the G7, five decades after its founding event, to be an opportunity for a collective reset. True to the spirit of the founding Summit in Rambouillet in 1975, the French Presidency aims to refocus this dialogue on economic issues and use it to create tangible solutions, by bringing together the major emerging economies and regional partners through the work of the G7.

Between now and the Évian Summit, several major events will highlight this approach: the One Health Summit in Lyon in April, dedicated to global health, followed by the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi in May, which will look at innovative economic partnerships between the G7 and the African continent.

The Sherpas are responsible for creating a shared vision of global prosperity for the leaders, based on three principles: solidarity among nations, economic stability and collective responsibility. The Sherpas work on preparing the Évian Summit and the concrete commitments that may be made there, for a G7 that remains, fifty years after its creation, a lever of confidence and action to serve the common good.
