At 10:00 on Sunday, 14 May 2017, Mr François Hollande welcomed Mr Emmanuel Macron, elected President of the Republic on Sunday, 7 May, to the Élysée Palace.

After speaking with François Hollande for almost an hour, Emmanuel Macron accompanied him to his car, before going to the Salon des Ambassadeurs where he received the insignia of the Grand Maître of the National Order of the Legion of Honour. As is traditional, he then entered the Salle des Fêtes, where the President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, proclaimed the official results of the presidential election.

Early in the afternoon, the President of the Republic left the Palace to travel up the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe in an army light vehicle, escorted by 140 cavalry and 48 motorcyclists from the Republican Guard. After rekindling the flame of the Unknown Soldier, he went to the Percy Military Hospital to visit soldiers injured in combat. He was lastly received by Ms Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, at City Hall.

Second term – 7 May 2022

On Saturday, 7 May 2022, Emmanuel Macron was officially sworn in for his second term as President of the French Republic. 

The ceremony was held at 11 a.m. at the Salle des Fêtes in the Élysée Palace. 

Laurent Fabius, President of the Constitutional Council, officially announced the election results of 24 April 2022. Benoît Puga, French Army General and Grand Chancellor of the National Order of the Legion of Honour, presented President Macron with the title of Grand Master of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

President Emmanuel Macron then delivered a speech in which he stressed his desire to “act” and “serve” by making commitments on the climate, peace, Europe and young people.

After his address, President Macron went to greet his guests: former French Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, members of the government, prominent figures, campaigners, etc.

The ceremony continued outside, where the President reviewed the troops. As he did so, a 21-gun salute was performed by young volunteers from the French army artillery branch at Draguignan military academy.
