President Peres,
It gives me very great pleasure to offer you, on behalf of the French State and personally, my warmest congratulations on your election as President of the State of Israel.
In electing you to the head of the Israeli State, the Knesset has recognized your historic contribution to the construction and political life of your country.
Through this choice, a legitimate tribute is paid to your outstanding personal qualities of courage, wisdom and high-minded ideals as well as your continuing action to promote Israeli-Palestinian dialogue and unfailing commitment to the search for a just and lasting peace in the region.
I offer you my best wishes for complete success in the high office that has been entrusted to you, and I am convinced that with a friend of France such as you, the long and close history of friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue to thrive and grow.
